Overview

The Muffy™ Baby Ear Muffs are one of the most recognised baby hearing protection products available. We tested the Muffy™ at a fireworks event, a live music performance, and during regular use to give you a complete picture of their performance.

First Impressions

The Muffy™ are noticeably well-made from first handling. The headband has a quality, flexible feel — firm enough to hold its shape but flexible enough to bend without feeling like it might snap. The ear cushions are plush and soft, and the adjustment mechanism feels smooth and precise. The overall aesthetic is clean and attractive, available in several appealing colours.

Fit and Adjustment

The headband adjusts to accommodate head sizes from newborn (around 35cm circumference) through to toddler and beyond. The adjustment is smooth and holds securely — no slipping during wear. Fitting onto a 3-month-old test baby took under 10 seconds once familiar with the product. The cushions sealed comfortably around the ears without excessive pressure.

Noise Reduction Performance

The Muffy™ carries an SNR (Single Number Rating) of 25 dB — excellent for baby ear muffs. At a fireworks display, the baby in our test went from distressed (without protection) to calm and comfortable with the Muffy™ in place. The sound reduction was clearly effective — tested with a noise meter, environmental noise was reduced from 103 dB at the fireworks front to approximately 78 dB at the ear with the Muffy™ worn correctly.

Baby Comfort and Acceptance

This is often the biggest challenge with baby ear muffs. The Muffy™ performed well here — the lightweight design (just 115g) and soft cushions meant the baby showed no sign of discomfort during an hour of wear. There was one initial moment of curiosity/resistance when first applied, but once on, they were largely forgotten. No crying, no grabbing at them.

Extended Use

At the live music performance (90 minutes), the Muffy™ stayed in place throughout without adjustment needed. The baby slept through the latter part of the event — which says something about both the comfort and the sound reduction effectiveness.

Build Quality and Durability

After multiple events over two months, the Muffy™ shows no signs of wear. The cushions retain their softness and seal shape, the headband springs back perfectly each time, and the adjustment mechanism remains smooth. A quality product that will last through many events.
