Got your crib protector and not sure where to start? Fitting a baby crib rail protector is simpler than it looks. Follow this step-by-step guide and you'll have it installed correctly in under 10 minutes.
What You'll Need
- Your crib protector (Premium Baby Crib Cushion - Cushy™)
- The crib assembled and in its final position
- 5–10 minutes
Step 1: Remove Everything from the Crib
Start with an empty crib. Remove the mattress and set it aside — you'll get better access to the rails and it's easier to thread ties through the slats without the mattress in the way.
Step 2: Unpack and Orient the Protector
Lay the crib protector flat and identify the panels. Most full-perimeter protectors have a long panel for each side. Check if there's a designated "head end" — some products have slightly more padding at the top. Hold the protector against the inside of the crib rails. The padded face should face into the crib, with attachment ties threading through the slats or around the outside of the rail.
Step 3: Attach the Corner Ties First
Start at one corner. Thread the corner ties through the nearest crib slat and tie them securely around the rail. Pull them snug — zero slack between the protector and the rail. The protector should sit flush against the rail with no gap.
Work corner by corner around the full crib before adjusting the intermediate ties.
Step 4: Attach the Intermediate Ties
Thread and tie the intermediate ties evenly spaced along each panel. These keep the protector from bowing outward between corners. Pull each tie snug — no sagging or gaps.
Step 5: Check for Gaps and Loose Areas
Run your hands along the entire perimeter. Check that:
- There are no gaps between the protector and the rail
- No panel is sagging, bunching, or pulling away from the rail
- All ties are double-knotted with no loose ends dangling inside the crib
- The top edge sits at or below the crib mattress height
Step 6: Replace the Mattress and Do a Final Safety Check
Slide the mattress back in. Before placing baby in the crib, do one final check: give each panel a firm tug — it should not pull away from the rail. There should be no loose material baby could pull over their face, and all ties should be secured through the slats, not dangling freely.
How Often Should You Check It?
Check the attachment once a week, and any time it looks different. Babies grab and pull on everything within reach. The Premium Baby Crib Cushion - Cushy™ has a reinforced tie system designed to stay secure — but a 30-second weekly check is always worth it.
